Berjaya UCH was established as a institution of higher learning on 14th November 2008, and offers programmes related to hospitality, tourism and services management from foundation to postgraduate levels.  These programmes are offered under four (4) Schools, which are the School of Culinary Arts, School of Hospitality Management, School of Tourism, Arts and Culture Management, and School of Services Management.  Foundation studies are offered to post secondary school leavers as an entry qualifier to the undergraduate programmes.

Berjaya UCH's cosmopolitan city campus is situated within the golden triangle in Berjaya Times Square. The city campus, totalling approximately 100,000 square feet, is located on the 11th (West Wing) consisting mainly the administrative offices and learning areas; and 14th (East Wing) comprises the culinary and restaurant facilities for the School of Culinary Arts.

Berjaya UCH state-of-the-art facilities include high-tech lecture theatres, classrooms and seminar rooms, conference room, learning and resource centre, housekeeping suite, travel bureau, dedicated computer laboratories with the latest software, fully equipped preparation, production and pastry kitchens, bakery, culinary studio, culinary theatre, show kitchen, fine dining restaurant, café, culinary museum, coffee and tea academy, oenology laboratory and chocolate and sugar artistry laboratory among others.

Programme :

Foundation in Hospitality - 1 year

The foundation programme prepares students for undergraduate programmes in the areas of culinary arts, hospitality, tourism and services management. Over a study period of three (3) semesters, students will acquire the essential knowledge necessary to pursue the undergraduate programmes in these areas. Students who have completed the programme would have gained confidence in using English for academic and work purposes, a smart study strategy and critical thinking skills.

Applicants should fulfil the following requirements-

  • Pass SPM/ O-Levels or equivalent with a minimum of 5 credits

 

Diploma Programme – 2.5 years

There are three diploma programmes that students can choose from:

·         Diploma in Hospitality Management

The Diploma in Hospitality Management programme enables students to acquire the business acumen and mandatory skills needed to successfully manage a world-class hospitality operation profitably. Students will be prepared for extensive career opportunities across industry sectors such as hotels, resorts, clubs, restaurants, cruise liners, contract catering, retail outlets, fast food restaurants and many more. Students will gain hands-on experience through the operations of the on-campus food and beverage outlets which are open to the public.

·         Diploma in Culinary Arts

The programme is designed to take students through key stages of classical/ international cuisine, Malaysian cuisine, eastern cuisine, garde manger, meat fabrication, patisserie, dessert, bakery and other specialised areas, while developing professionalism and proficiency in cost control, nutrition and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP). Additional subjects such as management, accounting, marketing, managing people and entrepreneurship, are introduced to provide students with an in-depth understanding of the culinary industry. Students will gain hands-on experience through the operations of the on-campus food and beverage outlets which are open to the public.

·         Diploma in Tourism and Travel Management

The Diploma in Tourism and Travel Management is a skills-driven programme that encompasses the knowledge and expertise needed to become a tourism and travel industry personnel. This programme also introduces subjects such as management, accounting, marketing, managing people and entrepreneurship to further advance the student’s understanding of the tourism and travel industry. Students will be prepared for extensive career opportunities across industry sectors such as airlines, national and local tourist boards, events companies, cruise lines, hotels and restaurants, education, museums, travel and tour agencies and travel consultancies.

Applicants should fulfil the following requirements-

  • Pass SPM/ O-Levels or equivalent with a minimum of 3 credits.
  • Successful completion of the Foundation in Hospitality programme.

 

Bachelor Degree  – 3.5 years

There are two Bachelor degree programmes that student can choose from:

·         Bachelor of Hospitality Management (Honours)

This Bachelor of Hospitality Management degree programme offers a range of fundamental and specialists subjects that will launch the students’ management career in the hospitality industry. Upon completion, students will enjoy extensive career opportunities across industry sectors such as hotels, resorts, clubs, restaurants, cruise liners, contract catering, retail outlets, fast food restaurants and many more.

·         Bachelor of Tourism Management (Honours)

The Bachelor of Tourism Management degree prepares a student to develop a deep understanding of tourism issues and to critically analyse, evaluate and apply concepts to complex tourism problems. During this programme, students will have the opportunity to study a range of fundamental and specialised subjects to prepare them for employment in various tourism sectors such as airlines, national and local tourist boards, events companies, cruise lines, hotels and restaurants, education, museum, travel and tour agencies and travel consultancies.

Centre for Professional Development & Life Long Learning  – N/A years

The Centre for Professional Development & Life Long Learning (CPDLLL) is a registered Class A Training Provider with the Malaysian ministry of Human Resource. The University College offer a wide array of courses geared towards skills acquisition, skills enhancement and professional development.  The courses are conducted in partnership with eCornell, a wholly subsidiary of Cornell University through e-learning. The courses cover the area of

  • Management Essentials
  • Project Leadership
  • Leadership Development
  • Human Resources Management
  • Finance for Non Finance Managers

Fees: RM 1,200 per course

International Student Services

There are two departments assisting international students. The Department of Student Services will assist international students regarding student visa matters. The department will also arrange airport pick up for international students upon their arrival.

The International Student Office however will be responsible to ensure international students settle down comfortably and conduct appropriate orientation programme for them. The department will also organise relevant workshops for the international students upon their arrival.

Accommodations are available to students. Students can stay either at:

·         NATWEST Residence

NATWEST Residence is located just 8km from Kuala Lumpur City Centre and 10 to 15 minutes drive from the University College. It is situated in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur, tucked away in a quiet, yet well-planned urban residential neighbourhood with good infrastructure and amenities. Monthly rentals range from RM300 to RM550 per person.

·         Golden Triangle KL Residence

The residence is just a stone’s throw away from the University College. Monthly rentals range between RM500 to RM2,000 per person.

·         Klang Valley Residence

The residence is located within 25km from the University College. Transportation is easily available to all via train, taxi or bus services. Monthly rental range between RM300 and RM600 per person.

 

Meals:

There are many food and beverage outlets at Berjaya Times Square where Berjaya University College of Hospitality is located. Students can enjoy discounts at selected outlets. (Students must produce student card in order to enjoy the discount benefits).

Scholarship

Scholarship awards offered at Berjaya University College of Hospitality serve as recognition of academic merit and achievement. The Tan Sri Vincent Tan Entrance Scholarship seeks to award its scholarship funds to meritorious recipients and is open to first-year students enrolled in a full-time programme of study at Berjaya University College of Hospitality. The Tan Sri Vincent Tan Entrance Scholarship is awarded as tuition fee waivers. The scholarship is offered to Malaysian students only and applicants must be registered as full time students with Berjaya University College of Hospitality.
