Taylor’s University College Malaysia was establish in 1969 and has since expanded from its main location in Subang Jaya, to include four additional campuses extending throughout the area surrounding its main campus, namely Taylor's Business School, Taylor's College Petaling Jaya, Taylor's American Degree Transfer Program and Taylor's College School of Hospitality and Tourism.

Programme :

Certificate in Hotel Operations - 1 year

This programme prepares students with an intensive knowledge on how to apply theories into practice within the hospitality industry. At the end of the programme, students will have gained experience and developed key operational skills and competencies in the hospitality industry. Students will gain expertise in food preparation, cooking, reception and housekeeping based on their practical training. Students will be trained in major areas of the hospitality industry: Food & Beverage Operations, Kitchen Operations and Rooms Operations. In addition, they will also have to study management subjects (Bookkeeping, Human Resource and Computing) and foundation subjects (English, Mathematics and LAN).

Students undergo a 7 week industrial training in the hospitality industry whereby they are exposed to operational aspects in various departments such as Rooms, Restaurant Service or Kitchen. The industrial training at hotel establishments equips students with the required skills and knowledge for an entry level position in the industry.

Upon completion, students may choose to continue their education and gain advanced entry into Term 3 of the Diploma in Hotel Management or Culinary Arts.

French Diploma in Hospitality Management – 2 years

The Diploma in Hospitality Management programme is conducted by Taylor's in line with the Baccalaureat Technologique Hôtellerie (BTH) - a prestigious French national qualification awarded by Académie de Toulouse. This two-year full-time programme is designed to give students comprehensive skills in hotel and catering operations as well as management and personal skills. For the first year, students are continuously assessed through class tests, assignments and projects which constitute 50% of the total marks while the Year End Examination contributes the other 50%. In the second year, students undergo continuous assessments and a Final Examination. The programme covers four broad fields of studies:

  • Tourism and Hospitality Environment
  • Language and Communication
  • Management Tools and Techniques
  • Hospitality Operations

Students are initially trained in major areas of the hospitality industry in the first year and then are allowed to specialise in

·        Food & Beverage - This specialisation is for students who are interested in making restaurant management their profession.

·         Rooms Division - This specialisation is for students who are interested in the accommodations sector, for occupations in Front Office, Guest Services, Reservations, Housekeeping and Sales.

French Diploma in Culinary Arts  – 2 years

The Diploma in Culinary Arts or also known as the Baccalauréat Professionnel Restauration – Cuisine is awarded by Académie de Toulouse. This two-year full-time programme is designed to equip students with advanced skills in culinary arts as well as strong product knowledge and the ability to perform and organise the food production according to established international standards.

Students will be taught about the state-of-the-art technical skills in kitchen setup and organisation, food product knowledge, patisserie, sensorial analysis, menu development as well as food and beverage management. Students will gain a high degree of professionalism and are trained to focus on quality of the product as well as customers' expectations in Kitchen Operations and Management, Mass Catering and Food Production.

The assessment system is a unique process that emphasises entirely on Continuous Assessment throughout the course. The Continuous Assessment carries a weight of 70% in the total of marks awarded and comprises of all tests and projects as well as formal evaluation of the Industrial Training attachment. The Final Examination marks account for 30% of the total marks in the practical and technical subjects (e.g. Cuisine practical paper, Cuisine and F&B Technology, Food Sciences).

The combination of Continuous Assessment and Final Examination grades will determine the global average of all the subjects and eventually the successful completion of the Diploma.

Upon completion, students will gain an advanced standing into Year 2 of the degree programme.

French Diploma in Tourism Management  – 2 years

The Diploma in Tourism Management is also known as the Brevet de Technicien Tourisme (BTT) that is awarded by the Académie de Toulouse. This two-year full-time programme curriculum has been strengthened with international and local contents to fully equip graduates to work in different parts of the world. Graduates are trained in travel and tour agency operations which include the creation of new tour packages, formulation of aggressive marketing strategies and project planning. Study tours to local and regional destinations are included in the programme. The programme covers four broad fields of studies.

  • Tourism Environment
  • Language and Communication
  • Management Tools and Techniques
  • Hospitality Operations & Management

Bachelor of Hospitality & Tourism Management  – 3 years

This 3+0 Bachelor degree programme is known as Licence Professionnelle Hotellerie et Tourisme in France, offering a comprehensive education and training in hospitality operations and management. Upon graduation, students will be equipped with professional skills and managerial capabilities for managerial positions in the global foodservice and hospitality industry. The programme comprises 2 semesters of 14 weeks each and a 16-week industry internship. Each module shall be delivered through lectures, tutorials, assignments, and projects. Visiting professors from the University of Toulouse are flown in to conduct block lectures and seminars.  In Year 1, students undergo general hospitality subjects that cover all aspects of hospitality operations. In Year 2, students may opt to specialise in either Hospitality Marketing and Management; or Culinary Arts and Food & Beverage Management. After completing Year 2, students will be awarded with the Higher Diploma in Hotel Management from the Académie de Toulouse, with which they can join the workforce or continue on with the degree. In the Year 3, students also get to choose from two specialisations, either International Hotel and Restaurant Management (I.H.R.M.); or Management and Engineering of Food Systems (M.E.F.S.).

The degree students will also undergo a study trip to France that is co-organised and hosted with the University of Toulouse, France. The residency programme includes seminars and management games at the university and study trips to discover various forms of tourism such as agro-tourism, industrial tourism, heritage tourism, ski and spa resort management, mass catering and food production. Above all, students experience the French way of life - its savoir faire. The cost of flight, accommodation and transportation will be borne by the college.

Bachelor of Tourism Management & Engineering  – 3 years

This 3+0 Bachelor degree programme is known as Licence 3 Geographie Amenagement - Management et Ingenierie des Industries du Tourisme in France. In this course, students will learn beyond the mere application of management tools and techniques and will graduate with professional and managerial capabilities. The programme comprises 2 semesters of 14 teaching weeks each and a 8-week industry internship. The programme covers 5 fields of study:

  • Management of Hospitality and Tourism Companies
  • Initiation to Research and Communication
  • Core Elective
  • Law, Economy and International Dimension
  • Analysis of Tourist Products and Methodological Tools

In Year 1 and 2, students undergo a comprehensive programme covering specific areas of the business of tourism and travel management. The programme demands high conceptual skills in destination planning and development; product planning and development; as well as sales and business negotiations. Its curriculum has been strengthened with international and local contents that provide sound knowledge and skills in managing and operating a travel business. Field studies to domestic and international destinations are included in this programme.

After completing Year 2, students will be awarded with the Higher Diploma in Tourism Management from the Académie de Toulouse, with which they can join the workforce or continue on with the degree programme. In Year 3, students are required to conceptualise and design tourism products which integrate political, economical, and social variables in an international context. At the micro level, students will analyse the interaction of tourism product development with environmental issues and town planning. The industry-relevance aspect of this programme is attested with a compulsory tourism project field work involving industry professionals. The degree students will also undergo a study trip to France that is co-organised and hosted with the University of Toulouse, France. The residency programme includes seminars and management games at the university and study trips to discover various forms of tourism such as agrotourism, industrial tourism, heritage tourism, ski and spa resort management, mass catering and food production. Professional Master in International Tourism and Hospitality Management – 16 months

The Professional Master in International Tourism and Hospitality Management is a master’s degree that specialises in the field of hospitality and tourism management. The programme balances theoretical knowledge and professional exposure through course work, research, graduate seminars and internship.
Offered in collaboration with the University of Toulouse, France, this master’s degree is aimed to equip students with sophisticated, cutting edge management tools and techniques to deal with challenges in the dynamic hospitality and tourism industry.  The programme adopts a global approach in its teaching materials supplemented by local case studies, which ensures that students attain a deeper understanding of international affairs. Graduates will possess a global mindset and professional competitive advantage, as well as be highly sought after as leaders of service-related organisations.  A 20-week internship is planned to supplement the study. This internship is compulsory for students who do not have the required minimum professional experience.

Accommodation

Hostel accommodations are available to students. Students can stay either at:

·         Ridzuan Condominium

The condominium consist of 25 –storey blocks and has 24 hours security. There is also a swimming pool, tennis and squash courts, gymnasium, launderette, restaurant, convenience store and hair salon.

·         The Mentari Court

The condominiums consist of 4 units of 18 –storey blocks and have 24 hours security. There is also a swimming pool, badminton court and jogging track.
